What is teresa spence?

Teresa Spence is a Canadian Indigenous politician and activist from the Attawapiskat First Nation. She served as the chief of the Attawapiskat First Nation from 2010 to 2015 and gained national attention for her role in the Idle No More movement in 2012-2013.

Spence also gained widespread media coverage and support for her 2012 hunger strike to bring attention to the need for treaty rights and action on Indigenous issues. Her protest brought attention to the difficult living conditions and lack of basic resources for many Indigenous communities in Canada.

As an Indigenous leader and advocate, Spence has dedicated herself to increasing awareness about issues affecting Indigenous peoples in Canada and working towards reconciliation and healing.
